Do you really need a Tech?

Should I call a Technician, is a question everyone asks themselves every time they have an issue with their computer.  In our first newsletter we will help you answer that question.

On a daily basis we get phone calls from worried clients. In about 50% of these cases we don't need to book an appointment because we can fix the problem over the phone.  So how do you save money by calling us only when we're needed?  Here are 3 tips you can do yourself to help ascertain whether the problem is temporary or needs a PC Medic!

Three Easy Fixes You Can Do Yourself.

Tip # 1.  This is going to sound too simple, but have you tried turning your device off then on again?  Sometimes computer systems just need to be rebooted and there's actually nothing wrong with them.  They just needed a little time out or off if you will.   If your system is acting up, processing slowly or freezing up you will be surprised at how efficient turn it off and on again will be.  If the system is frozen, just hold down the power button until it shuts down.  Wait a few seconds then turn it back on.

Tip # 2.   Before picking up the phone to call your Technician check all the connections behind your monitor, computer, and/or printer. Once again this tip is one that sounds so simple but is frequently overlooked.  Over time connections loosen and cables begin to come out just enough to begin failing to fully connect.  Checking to make sure all the connecting wires are properly inserted is especially useful when you begin to notice that your computer screen is cutting out, or your PC is mysteriously turning off by itself, or wont start up at all.  This tip also applies to failures connecting to the internet.  Check to make sure that the cable and wire coming from your computer to your router are well connected.

Tip #3. So far we've discussed easy fixes regarding your computer or device being slow, not starting or flickering.  The third problem we see on a regular basis that is an easy fix involves internet connectivity.  If you are having difficulty connecting to or staying connected to the internet it's time to check your router.  The first step is to make sure all the usual wires and cables are well connected.  Then, just like your device, try resetting your router by turning it off and on again.  It will take a few minutes to get full connectivity so be patient.  If this does not work or only works for short periods of time, you may need a new router.  This leaves you with two options: One, call your internet provider.  If you are renting your router they will usually walk you through a procedure to make sure the problem is the router and may even send you a new router free of charge.  If your provider cannot or will not help for free, call a Technicians.
